Backlog link should be moved to the right
Backlog will open a panel on the right, it is just a list of entities
What if Start OR End date is read-only?
Explain that Backlog does not show entities in final state (some ? icon near Backlog)

It should be possible to re-order entities in Backlog (sorted by Rank).

Add quick filter by entity name
A user can drag entity from backlog to Timeline View directly. On drag we should automatically set card duration depending on timeline zoom (BUT it will cause changes in card size when I drag it from backlog to timeline, maybe it will be confusing?)

Alternative: Plan existing Entities on a Timeline View
I believe it’s important to have a prioritized backlog with all the information crucial for planning. So I would suggest configuring the backlog separately from the main View. It should have its own filter, sort, color coding, and units. The only common option would be the Types selected.
An alternative would be to use an existing View (List, Table) as the backlog.
